Responsibilities
Ms. Tomlinson’s primary responsibilities include financial oversight of the VIMS Capital Outlay Program and serving as the Institute’s Risk Manager. In addition, Ms. Tomlinson manages the distribution of Facilities and Administrative recoveries to faculty members and oversees the VIMS Gift Shop.
Education & Experience
Carol K. Tomlinson has been with the Virginia Institute of Marine Science (VIMS) in higher education administrative positions since 1984. Prior to her current position, she served as a Payroll Technician at the Eastern State Hospital in Williamsburg, Virginia from 1980-1984. Ms. Tomlinson attended Thomas Nelson Community College.
Key accomplishments include serving as an elected official on both 21-member Professionals and Professional Faculty Assembly and 9-member Professionals and Professional Faculty Council; served as an elected official on the 24-member William & Mary Staff Assembly; served as a member of the W&M/VIMS committee to restructure the benefits and work life in the workplace for the university system; and was an integral participant in the implementation of the new human resource system.
Community Service
Ms. Tomlinson was a member of the Mathews Volunteer Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary from 1988 to 2002. She held the following positions over the 14 year period: President, Vice President and Treasurer.
Family
Carol’s husband, Lewis F. Tomlinson, Jr. owns Mathews Lawn & Garden, Inc. located in Mathews, Virginia. The Tomlinson’s have one son, Steve, one cat, and reside in Mathews County, Virginia.
